SA4-AR Active Reading: Forms and Actions for Managing Model Objects

Instructions

Following the usual Active Reading (AR) Instructions, carefully read and perform the steps in each of the following Demos-n-Deets demos:

• New/Create Forms
• Edit/Update Forms
• Destroy Actions
• Validation Helpers

Important Things to Remember

• Perform all the steps.
• Think deeply and make sure you understand each step.
• Name screenshots with the exact names specified.

How to Start Each Demo

1. cd into your workspace folder.
2. Find the “Base App Code Branch” link in the demo webpage.
3. git clone the base app repo, giving it a custom name, like sa1-ar-model-classes.
4. cd into the new working directory.
5. git switch to the base app branch specified in the demo.
6. Open the working directory in VS Code, bundle install/rails db:migrate && rails db:seed, and begin the demo.

What to Submit

• New/Create Forms Demo Screenshots:
  • sa4-ar-01: The new-resource page with an empty form.
  • sa4-ar-02: The index page after a successful form submission, with the success notification showing.
  • sa4-ar-03: The new-resource page after an unsuccessful new/create form submission, with the failure notification and error-message annotations showing.
• Edit/Update Forms Demo Screenshots:
  • sa4-ar-04: The edit-resource page for one of the seed model objects with no changes yet made to the form entries.
  • sa4-ar-05: The show page after a successful edit/update form submission, with the success notification showing.
  • sa4-ar-06: The edit-resource page after an unsuccessful form submission, with the failure notification and error-message annotations showing.
• Destroy Actions Demo Screenshots:
  • sa4-ar-07: The controller class in VS Code, with the destroy method visible.
  • sa4-ar-08: The HTML.ERB index view template in VS Code, with the button_to call associated with the destroy action showing.

Important! All screenshots must include your computer’s desktop in the background so that it is recognizable as your desktop. Also, all screenshots of web pages must display the entire URL of the page in the browser’s location bar. (Watch out, as some browsers like to hide parts of the URL unless you click on it.)
